I almost exploded with excitement when I heard Burial was releasing new material. Collab work with Four Tet and Thom Yorke and a new e.p on Hyperdub. Sounds ace....

Detrublin Homegrown 1

This is a feature that will hopefully be on these pages a lot more going forward. We have a huge amount of talent in Dublin and I want to do as much as I can to try and highlight some artists that you may or may not have heard about. First up is someone who was in touch recently and I must say that I was very impressed with the level of production in his tracks. For someone who has only been making beats for a year he's made huge progress in a short amount of time. The artist in question is Shatterfreak. Hes certainly someone who is taking the bull by the horns aswel. He has an ep finished and ready for release on new Irish Imprint Spiralking and come December you can find him running his new night Stomp-O-Rama in the Odeon. Great to see some genuine talent coming out and getting involved. Now coming up to it's fifth birthday Hyperdub has grown to be one of the best labels of the decade and far more than just a dubstep label. With an impressive roster which includes Burial,Joker,Zomby, LV, Cooly G to name a few (I will blog about all of them at some stage) it is the labels founder and boss Kode 9 released his debut album "Memories of a Future" in 2006 which is the topic of the blog today. The second album which was released on Hyperdub is a collaboration with vocalist the Space Ape weaves it's way through 14 tracks with haunting and heavy and dark vocal by the Space Ape over the top. It's an album that has got heavy rotation on my i-pod over the past few years and explores Kode 9s love of 2-step garage and drum and bass to create a minimal masterpiece. Check out one of my favorite cuts from this album on the link below. And if you see anything on the Hyperdub label just buy it!!!
